| Description | This article discusses how a large contingent of Mormon women, officially called the "Kennewick Chapter of Women", showed up to participate in opposition to the Equal Rights Amendment in the Washington State Women's Conference on July 8th, 1977. Also discussed is the surprise move from Jill Ruckleshaus, and her withdrawel from the slate of 24 candidates chosen to attend the National Women's Conference in Houston the following November. Instead, she asked her supports to fully endorse the full slate of candidates developed by the Equal Rights Amendment supporters. Six other women would follow suit in this matter, in direct opposition to the Blue and White Coalition, composed mostly of Mormon women, who came to the conference to stand against the ERA. |
