Full Description	A book containing the minutes from meetings held by the Aloha Club from 1898-1902. In includes members names, roll calls and notes from discussions and club events.

Remarks	There is a finding aid associated with the Aloha Club records, Ms68. Background information from the finding aid: The Aloha Club was organized as a study group in 1892. The charter members were the wives of eastern businessmen who had come west for work. The women wanted an organization where they could apply their interests in the world and their talents. The club met twice a month to discuss current art and civic interest papers written by the members. In 1899 the club decided to bring art to the public schools of Tacoma. They began to purchase reproductions of the old masters and circulated them through the schools along with information about the artist. In 1948 the Aloha Club decided it would begin purchasing original works from promising and prominent Northwest artists. The collection still grows today and is housed at the Tacoma Art Museum. The name, Aloha, was chosen for its meaning of friendship and hospitality and the club motto is "growing thought makes growing revelation" by George Elliot. Today the club is still committed to promoting the cultural life of the community.
