RemarksPhotograph taken by Asahel Curtis for the Great Northern Railway. The Bellingham Utah and Idaho (U & I) factory was constructed in 1925. 522 farmers in Whatcom and Skagit counties planted over 3000 acres of beets, with a harvest of 20, 741 tons. The factory produced 50, 237 bags of sugar the first year. The factory only operated barely 14 years, closing in 1938.
