| Abstract | The object of the Women's Club of Tacoma was to strengthen by organization, individual effort to humanity, to promote the welfare of Tacoma by beautifying the city and improving its hygienic and other civic conditions. |
| Biography | On October 13, 1904, the City Federation of Women's Clubs was dissolved and the six clubs formed the Women's Club of Tacoma. Their motto was "There is no higher duty than to work for the good of the whole world". The object of the club was to beautify the city of Tacoma by improving its hygienic and other civic conditions. Their first project was to open a restroom and cafeteria for working girls and Women of Tacoma. The room was opened on December 8, 1904. The Women's Club was involved in fund raising for charities, donation drives and intellectual stimulation. The club included the departments of fine arts, education and civic. It was affiliated with Washington State Federation of Women's Clubs and the Presidents' Council of Women's Organizations of Tacoma and Pierce County. |
