| Biography | Alice Maude Smith, born in 1867 in Abercorn, Quebec, graduated from the Women's Medical School of Northwestern University in 1896 and established her medical practice in Tacoma, WA in 1903. Although she faced an uphill battle as an unmarried female physician, she became well respected in her profession. To relieve the stress of the job, she devoted much of her free time to literary pursuits. She was the author of several books and plays, some of which were produced in Tacoma in 1905. Her most famous play, The Strength of the Weak, appeared on Broadway, where it had a twenty-seven day run. Dr. Smith died in Tacoma in 1938. |
| Scope and Content | Aside from a biography, one piece of correspondence and two pamphlets, the collection consists of scripts written by Alice Smith. These bound volumes also contain notes and newspaper clippings about the productions. |
