| Biography | Andriette Leacock Bowen was born in Tacoma, WA on 3 September 1892. She attended a private school in Tacoma, where she developed a lifelong interest in music. She became active in the social life of Tacoma, participating in numerous amateur musical productions and organizations and charitable service groups. Miss Bowen moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1923, where she married W. Edwin Gledhill in 1935. She died 7 February
1979. |
| Scope and Content | The collection consists of fourteen volumes of diaries, 1910, 1912-1923, and 1925-1935. The 1925-1935 entries are in two five-year diaries, so the daily entries are necessarily short. The earlier diaries document a young woman very active clubs and participating widely in the social life of Tacoma. Bowen was a diligent diarist, and the individual entries would be of interest to a researcher looking at the daily life of a woman from the upper social classes in the Pacific Northwest during the first half of the twentieth century. Also included is a bound Leacock family history. |
