| Biography | The Soroptimist Club of Tacoma is a chapter of Soroptimist International. The club's purpose is to maintain high ethical standards in business and professional life and to advance the status of women. The club is made up of executive and professional women from the Tacoma area and membership is by invitation only, thus providing the club with a cross-section of women representing a wide variety of professions. The club engages in a number of public service projects, including raising funds so children who need to attend special camps to learn how to deal with emotional stress can go. The Soroptimists have kept up the libraries at local hospitals with the addition of new books and magazines as well as helping to distribute materials to patients. They also established a memorial fund that provides loans to women attending certain specialized schools. The Soroptimist club of Tacoma is part of the Northwest region of the Soroptimist Federation of the Americas and participates in the local Presidents Council of Women's Clubs |
